A birth doula is a person that supports a pregnant person before the birth, during the birth and a bit after. A birth doula’s main role is to answer any questions about pregnancy, help in the creation of a birth plan and make the birthing process as comfortable as possible. Having a doula decreases the chances of unnecessary interventions like pain medication and cesareans. For more information, visit this website!
Sara’s doula practice is based in radical politics that include a race, class and ability analysis and centers queerness. This means that she is excited to work with folks to bring babies into a world of liberation and new futures. She does this work by making sure her services are affordable and including resources about low intervention births in the context of the history of birthing for Black/Queer/Trans/Woman-identified folk. She also recognizes the factors that make low intervention births not possible and works to make the process as freedom-focused as possible. If you need more assistance than is mentioned below, please say so! We will figure something out.
Giving birth to a new life is an experience that should be grounded in the sacredness of community and justice.
Sara is DONA trained and working towards her DONA certification.
She is available to serve Pensacola, FL and New Orleans, LA through December 2017.
