This past year, I was a fellow with Soulforce, an organization that works to end the political and religious oppression of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex people through relentless nonviolent resistance. Our big project was the Equality Ride. We went to conservative and Christian colleges throughout the south, talking to students and administration about their harmful LGBTQI policies. During the Equality Ride we hosted many dinners for students and community members in an effort to build community and organize. Since then, I’ve been interested in exploring hospitality and its place in the movement. Radical Manners is the result of all the magic I’ve collected this summer- recipes, stories, pictures from people invested in liberation. This gallery will highlight the importance of food and hospitality in the work of justice and liberation. This is a growing gallery, so holla if you have things to contribute.
Shout out to Soulforce for making this possible!
Every gallery begins with this statement:
Radical Manners is a collection of stories, wisdom, and people who believe in the power of hospitality in service of liberation. We hope you are inspired to share your own stories, bits of wisdom and recipes to grow this gallery. The table is set for you. Come and nourish yourself for the journey ahead.
